How To Encourage Your Carpet To Dry Faster After Shampooing
Shampooing your carpet is a great way to remove stains and odors, but you have to make sure the carpet dries quickly afterwards. Otherwise, you might end up with mold and mildew – making matters worse, rather than better. To ensure that your carpet cleaning efforts are worthwhile, follow these four tips to dry your carpet out faster.
Go over it again on suction mode.
After you've shampooed the entire carpet, switch the shampooer to suction mode. In this mode, it should only suck up water – not spray out any new water or shampoo. Go over the entire carpet again on suction mode. Take your time, moving the shampooer slowly over the carpet so that it sucks up as much as possible. You'll be surprised how much additional water accumulates in the wastewater holder during this step.
Dry it with towels.
This process is a bit time consuming, but it's worthwhile, especially if you don't have a lot of windows to open in the room you shampooed. Take a few big towels. Lay them flat out on the carpet, and walk back and forth over them. Water will absorb into the towels where you put pressure on them with your feet. Move the towels to a new place (or use new towels if the original ones are fully saturated), and continue until you've blotted the entire carpet.
Open your windows.
Hopefully it's a nice day outside! Open your windows to let in some fresh air. This way, the air in your home won't get overly saturated with moist air, slowing down the evaporation process. You can open windows in the rooms adjacent to the room you shampooed, too. Just make sure screens are in place so debris does not blow in and get your carpet dirty again.
Note: If you suffer from pollen allergies, you may wish to skip this tip, as it may allow pollen into your home where it can stick to the still-moist carpet.
Turn on the fan.
If you have a ceiling fan, turn it on! It will direct air down from the ceiling, so it can flow over the carpet and then out through the open windows. If you don't have a ceiling fan, set a box fan up at one end of the room – preferably across from the windows if your windows are only on one wall.
